Akira built his fortune from the real estate management company Mori Building, which was founded by his father Taikichiro Mori. Following the death of their father in 1993, Akira and his older brother Minoru split the company. Akira headed the Mori Trust, while his brother took charge of Mori Building. Under Akira’s leadership, Mori Trust has grown into a multi-billion-dollar company, expanding toward other major cities of Japan and continuously developing new projects, including the newly opened Conrad Tokyo hotel. With a net worth of US$4.2 billion, Akira was ranked as the fourth richest man in Japan in 2009 by Forbes magazine.
