Eating Culture in Japanese Restaurants

There are numerous restaurants in Japan, and when you are here, you will surely never run out of places to eat at. When on your stay in the country, try to go to some Japanese style restaurants. These places offer a set of fixed meals, which typically consist of a meat or fish dish, with a bowl of miso soup, pickles and rice. Menus, for the most part, will often be written in the Japanese language, yet you should not worry. Restaurants often have pictures of their food, and you can point at a dish that you would like to order.

Restaurants will present you with the check after the meal, and you are expected to pay at the counter when leaving. Furthermore, tipping is not really customary in Japan. Thus, you should never leave money behind on your table because the local people will only return it to you, thinking that you have forgotten your change.
